Empty Landscapes, Part 1
A study of an Ireland left behind; County Roscommon. Making my way through the county on a bicycle, recording the abandoned and neglected, houses from recent times and old ruins. New projects that has been left as empty skeletons. Since moving here I have noticed a large amount of deserted homes within the county. It is both fascinating and curious to see so many empty derelict buildings scattered throughout rural Roscommon that are not being cared for, or maintained any longer. Homes that are abandoned due to social and economic dislocation and struggles. Homes being inherited after the death of a relative and then left neglected. Ruins that date back to the 19th century and the Great Famine when people had to emigrate or suffered starvation. There is a bleak quietness surrounding these ghostlike spaces, that paint the landscape
